Admiral (Ret.) James G. Stavridis


Admiral Stavridis retired from the Navy in 2013 after leading the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Alliance as Supreme Allied Commander with full responsibility for 120,000 coalition troops on three continents. He also served as U.S. European Commander with 100,000 Department of Defense employees in 51 countries. Prior to his NATO assignment, he served as Commander, U.S. Southern Command and as Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of the Navy. 

He also served on the Boards of the Navy Federal Credit Union and the U.S. Naval Institute.

Admiral Stavridis has published five books and over 100 articles. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, the Naval War College, and the National War College. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and an M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University where he was awarded the Gullion Prize as top of the class.
