Members of the Michael Baker Employee Charities of Western Pennsylvania presented a check for $30,000 to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in support of the Free Care Fund during the hospital’s annual telethon, broadcast on KDKA-TV on Thursday, December 17, 2015.
Michael Baker International’s partnership with Children’s Hospital dates to the early 1970s when the structures and highway department in the Beaver office sold homemade baked goods and collected funds in a large milk can. The donations were originally presented to KDKA radio hosts as they broadcast the fundraiser live from the Kaufmann’s department store window in downtown Pittsburgh.
Michael Baker has contributed more than $330,000 to Children’s Hospital in more than 40 years of support, and is recognized as one of the Top 10 corporate supporters of the Free Care Fund, which provides care to children regardless of their family’s ability to pay.
Through payroll deduction and fundraisers, including its annual holiday raffle and baked goods sale, Baker Employee Charities distributes monetary contributions to qualified non-profit organizations.
The Michael Baker Corporation Foundation matched funds raised by the Baker Employee Charities for the Free Care Fund.
