The Orange County Chapter of the Women in Transportation Seminar (WTS) recently recognized Margaret Novak, a business development associate in Michael Baker International’s Irvine, Calif., office, for her dedication to the organization and industry. The chapter named Novak Member of the Year at its annual Awards and Scholarship Gala on December 8.

The award recognized Novak as a member who has shown an extraordinary commitment to the goals and growth of WTS Orange County by working effectively in support of WTS goals. She has worked to promote the reputation of WTS Orange County within the transportation industry, while regularly attending and participating in WTS Orange County events.

Novak, who has been actively involved in WTS Orange County for the last five years, says she is passionate about helping the chapter to achieve its mission: advancing women in transportation. During this time, she has served on the board of directors in several capacities, currently as membership chair (2nd vice president). In this role, she works to grow the chapter’s membership base and connects members through meaningful networking opportunities, relevant informational topics and informal mentoring at all levels.

Previously, Novak served as programs co-chair, coordinating events and securing high-level transportation agency speakers, which ultimately increased event participation and chapter revenue. Her involvement with WTS Orange County started by serving as hospitality co-chair, a role that provided unique opportunities for her to get to know individual members. She immediately identified opportunities to streamline the chapter’s registration process, including name badge preparation and assembly for all events.

Novak has worked for Michael Baker for nearly nine years and currently serves as business development associate. She is primarily responsible for supporting the Transportation Practice in Michael Baker’s Irvine/Los Angeles offices. Additionally, Novak provides ongoing support to the region’s rail/transit lead and as-needed support to the construction management, GIT and planning disciplines.
