Location: Nipton, California, 370 MW on 3,500 acres
Michael Baker International provided boundary, construction equipment control, project control, and construction lay out surveys for the 3,500-acre Brightsource Energy project. The 3,500-acre site will produce 370 megawatt nominal (392 MW gross) of clean renewable energy. This project will provide power under a 1,300-megawatt contract for Southern California Edison and a 1,300-megawatt contract with Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The 370-megawatt Ivanpah Solar Power Complex was built in three phases: two 110-megawatt facilities and one 220-megawatt facility. The first phase (110 megawatts) began construction in mid-2010 and was completed in 2012. The second phase began construction roughly six months after the start of the first phase. A 100-megawatt solar thermal plant utilizes approximately 50,000 heliostats.
