Carlos Ortiz of Michael Baker International Elected as President of ITE Western District

Irvine, Calif. (August 26, 2014) - Michael Baker International is pleased to announce that Carlos Ortiz, Vice President of Transportation, was recently elected to the position of president of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Western District.  In his new role, Mr. Ortiz will represent Michael Baker International as a transportation industry leader.

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is a professional society of more than 15,000 transportation engineers, planners and other professionals in some 80 countries.  The Institute facilitates the application of technology and scientific principles to research, planning, functional design, implementation, operation, policy development, and management for all modes of transportation.  The Institute is also a forum for industry experts to exchange information, stimulate research and develop professionally. The ITE Western District represents thirteen western states, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Mr. Ortiz has been an active member of ITE for over 20 years, holding numerous board positions, including president of both the Southern California and Riverside-San Bernardino Sections.  He is the past president of the Orange County Traffic Engineers Council (OCTEC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Younger Member Forum Orange County.  He is also an active member of the ASCE, OCTEC, American Public Works Association (APWA) and the Intelligent Transportation Society of California (ITS CA). This year, Mr. Ortiz was also elected to serve on the ITS California Board of Directors.

Mr. Ortiz holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.  He is a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in California and Arizona, a licensed Traffic Engineer in California and a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer.  Mr. Ortiz has extensive experience spanning over 25 years of leading-edge work in intelligent transportation systems and traffic engineering in the West.
