Pittsburgh (February 17, 2016) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced that Engineering News-Record (ENR) Mid-Atlantic magazine recently recognized two of the company’s rising stars as “20 Under 40” honorees. Wendy Berrill and Chad Davis in Michael Baker’s Pittsburgh office each earned the accolade as up-and-coming industry leaders based on their career progress, commitment to the community and involvement in landmark and sustainable projects.

Wendy Berrill – Civil Engineer
Since joining the company as an intern nearly a decade ago, Wendy Berrill has quickly established herself as an emerging leader at Michael Baker, demonstrating expertise in both highway and railroad engineering and design. Berrill is responsible for laying out the alignments of new or reconstructed roadways and railroad design projects from conception to completion. Her impressive portfolio includes various award-winning rail yard and roadway expansion projects for high-profile clients both domestically and internationally.

“Wendy is a deserving recipient of this honor as she enthusiastically accepts any and all challenges with poise and professionalism, even if it’s outside of her designated expertise,” said Ed Telega, highways operations manager at Michael Baker.  “Her work generates efficient and accurate results for complex and schedule-driven projects, which is why clients specifically request to work with Wendy.”

Additionally, Berrill understands the importance of strong female role models in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. She strives to elevate and inspire women in her profession as a founding board member of Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Pittsburgh area chapter. In this role, Berrill is involved with the organization’s local mentorship initiative, Transportation YOU, a hands-on, interactive, mentoring program that introduces young girls to a variety of transportation careers. She also serves as a mentor to various outreach programs offered through Michael Baker and her alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh.

Chad Davis – Assistant Vice President and Practice Manager
Chad Davis is responsible for the operational management of Michael Baker’s civil, environmental, geographic information systems and survey departments within the company’s Pittsburgh office. As the company’s national technical lead for dam and levee services, Davis has led multi-disciplinary teams on multi-million-dollar projects, including various dam rehabilitations, levee assessments, flood protection studies, stormwater authority establishments, regional/county-wide stormwater management plans, land developments, and stream and aquatic ecosystem restorations across the nation. Davis currently serves as Michael Baker’s program manager for two statewide dam safety contracts and as the civil design lead on the rehabilitation project of the Buckeye Lake Dam in Ohio.

“Chad is the consummate professional with an unmatched combination of technical expertise and business acumen. This skillset has enabled him to tackle a variety of projects and offer significant contributions to the engineering industry,” said Jeff Campbell, regional director for Michael Baker’s Great Lakes Region. “I congratulate Chad on this honor, which is a reflection of both the work he has done as well as the influence he’s had on his peers.”

Outside the office, Davis gives back to the Pittsburgh community by lending his expertise to help guide future engineers. Davis has been an avid volunteer for numerous community events and company-sponsored STEM initiatives.

ENR profiled Berrill, Davis and the other “20 Under 40” honorees in a recent edition of the magazine.
