Software Development

Michael Baker boasts one of the largest and longest-standing software development groups in the bridge community. We have been a leading provider of bridge design, analysis and rating software for more than 20 years, and continue to develop, enhance and maintain numerous bridge software packages for a diverse group of agencies. Our unique bridge software development team was responsible for developing the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Bridge Automated Design and Drafting (BRADD) system, the first computer software program in the United States to fully automate the bridge design and drafting process.

Today, Michael Baker continues to develop, maintain and support the AASHTO suite of bridge design and load rating software, BrD (formerly known as Opis®) and BrR (formerly known as Virtis®). These versatile software products are supported by more than 100 state and local agencies and consulting firms worldwide and envelop the entire bridge life cycle through a common database.
