Joe is one of the largest contributors to bridge work at Michael Baker. He has contributed to nearly 40 projects throughout his tenure, including the I-280 Bridge Ramp Improvements, I-280/Route 21 Interchange Improvements and the Tappan Zee Bridge Replacement.
Kirsten wears many hats for Michael Baker, serving as Regional Practice Lead – Surface Transportation, Project Manager, and a key resource for other Practices. She also is a tireless promoter of training and education in new areas such as 3D design and modeling, regularly facilitating internal training for Highway and Rail staff across the Company.
During a special ceremony at the 2024 Michael Baker International Leadership Meeting, Chairman Thomas J. Campbell announced the winners of the 2023 Chairman’s Award, the company’s highest honor.

The Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center at LaVilla was designed by The Pond | Michael Baker International Joint Venture for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority. Transit-oriented development strategies were used to improve transportation, reduce traffic and spur economic activity in the region.
Michael Baker partnered with the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) to establish a Curb Box Inspection Program to generate an inventory of lead service lines and their locations throughout the PSWA water distribution system.

Building on Michael Baker International’s nationally recognized bridge inspection expertise, our rope access bridge inspectors are continuing the legacy of providing safe, economical, innovative and efficient structure inspection services to our clients. The inspections we perform as a rope access team offer hands-on investigation in difficult-to-access areas, reduced impacts to the traveling public, improved safety and efficient inspection schedules.
Over the past 13 years, we’ve collectively performed more than 25,000 hours of inspections on rope and grown our rope access team from five to 25 team members – and counting!

Larry provides the best that Michael Baker has to offer to all 14 departments of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). He has grown his PTC team from three to 13 and the agreement length from three to seven years.
Mohamed offers technical guidance across the Water practice and actively supports the Gulf Coast Region. His innovative and cost-effective drainage solutions contributed to a winning proposal for the I-2/I-69 Interchange Design-Build project, and his leadership helped the Company secure a new contract with the San Antonio River Authority.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation turned to our team of hands-on, rope-climbing inspectors with their motorized ascenders and other specialized climbing equipment to complete inspections of the Hernando de Soto Bridge.

At Michael Baker International, We Make a Difference by creating internships that allow students to explore engineering and other STEM careers and concepts and give them real-world learning and problem-solving skills. Developing this talent is an important part of our company, and the role that our interns play in our company and projects is critical. Our interns work side-by-side with industry experts, gaining valuable hands-on experience in engineering, planning, design, analysis, production and more, and making a demonstrable impact on projects that are bettering our communities. As a Professional Wetland Scientist, Rich has conducted hundreds of jurisdictional delineations and has extensive experience in the regulatory and environmental disciplines. He uses this expertise, along with excellent people skills, to navigate clients through relevant legislation to ensure project success.
Michael Baker collaborated with Intel and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to use drone technology to help inspect the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge, an eight-lane interstate that crosses the Ohio River.
Michael Baker provided environmental and highway design services for a widening construction project of U.S. Highway 70 between Interstate 30 and the city of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

On May 11, 2021, inspectors from Michael Baker were conducting a routine inspection of the upper portions of the Hernando de Soto Bridge, which carries Interstate 40 (I-40) across the Mississippi River between Arkansas and Tennessee, when they noticed a critical fracture in an area of the bridge below deck and outside of Michael Baker’s scope of work. With safety as the top priority, the inspectors contacted local authorities to shut down all traffic across and under the bridge. Working in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Arkansas Department of Transportation, as well as contractor Kiewit Corporation, Michael Baker designed a three-phase repair that resulted in the bridge reopening to traffic in just 83 days.

Nine members of our Wolf Pack traveled to Rwanda, East Africa, in March to construct the Kabira 3 trail bridge and provide local community members with safe, year-round access to essential health care, education and other basic services. The completed bridge is now serving more than 4,300 residents in the Rutsiro District of Rwanda.

Ten Michael Baker International employees from across the United States made the long journey to Rwanda to embark upon a two-week bridge build in partnership with B2P. On the ground in Rwanda, the team worked to construct a 246-foot suspended bridge over the Giciye River that would connect the villages of Jomba and Moringa.
