Pittsburgh (September 1, 2015) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, consulting, planning, technical and professional services, today announced the upcoming retirement of Bob Kallenbaugh, senior vice president and Irvine office executive for the company.
“With an entrepreneurial spirit, a track record of leadership and a lifelong commitment to his community, Bob Kallenbaugh has certainly made his mark – on Michael Baker International and on our profession,” said Tom Campbell, chairman of Michael Baker International. “On behalf of a grateful company and all of our employees, I wish Bob and his family the very best as he begins the next chapter in his life.”
A 40-year industry veteran, Kallenbaugh joined Michael Baker International in 2011 when the company acquired West Coast-based RBF Consulting, where Kallenbaugh served as co-CEO. During his tenure with RBF, which began in 1977, Kallenbaugh was instrumental in helping the company become one of the leading engineering and consulting services firms in the West. A key area of focus included complex land development and infrastructure projects throughout southern California, including a number of master planned communities in Orange County. Prior to joining RBF, Kallenbaugh was employed by the Orange County Flood Control District.
Kallenbaugh has earned a host of accolades related to his work. In 2012, he was the recipient of the College of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association, a citation designated for alumni who have attained success professionally and through personal involvement within their community and the university. In 2014, Cal Poly made Kallenbaugh one of a group of inaugural inductees into the College of Engineering’s Hall of Fame. Kallenbaugh was one of 22 alumni selected from more than 25,000 accomplished alumni to be part of the inaugural class. Also in 2014, the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Orange County Chapter presented Kallenbaugh with a Lifetime Achievement Award for demonstrating exemplary service and integrity in the engineering profession.
“In many ways, Bob Kallenbaugh set a standard of excellence in our profession, both in advising clients and in mentoring employees,” said Kurt Bergman, CEO of Michael Baker International. “Under Bob’s leadership, RBF Consulting was named ‘Best Civil Engineering Firm to Work For’ in the United States in 2005 by Civil Engineering News. Bob’s impressive body of work will continue to serve as an inspiration to others.”
In anticipation of Kallenbaugh’s departure at the beginning of 2016, the company conducted an extensive search for a talented executive to lead operations in the company’s largest West Region office, located in Irvine, Calif. Michael A. Tylman, P.E., operations manager in San Diego, was selected to serve as the new office executive based on his successful track record, capable leadership and firm grasp of current and future business opportunities. In his new role, Tylman will focus on overall management and business development for the Irvine operations, which includes a staff of 226 diversified team members leading high-profile initiatives that include land and urban planning, transportation, water resources, environmental consulting and construction management.
“Michael’s 30-year record of providing a diverse array of services to clients makes him the ideal choice for the expanded post,” Bergman said. “We are confident that he will lead the talented Irvine team in continuing to offer Michael Baker International’s full continuum of innovative solutions and global expertise and experience all while making a difference in our local communities.”
Tylman’s career with Michael Baker International began in 1985 with RBF in the company’s office in Newport Beach, Calif. He was instrumental in expanding RBF’s services by helping to establish RBF’s first regional office in Temecula. His efforts led to RBF becoming a leading engineering consultant in the region that managed numerous high-profile residential and commercial master plan developments. In 2014, Tylman was appointed office executive of Michael Baker International’s San Diego office. In this role, he oversaw operations for both the San Diego and Carlsbad offices. During his tenure, Tylman has been an active member of the local chapters of the Building Industry Association (BIA) as well as serving on the board of directors for the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Southwest Riverside County. Tylman is a 1984 graduate of California State University at Long Beach with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.
