Pittsburgh (October 6, 2015) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, consulting, planning, technical and professional services, recently enhanced its marketplace-leading technological capabilities in mobile mapping with the procurement of two Lynx SG Mobile Survey Systems from Teledyne Optech. These new systems allow Michael Baker’s mobile Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) units to deliver top-of-the-line mobile mapping capabilities to departments of transportation and other clients that manage highways, traffic signals, runways, rail systems, flood control structures and other infrastructure.
The recent purchase of these two systems doubles Michael Baker’s mobile mapping capabilities with a total of four systems that it can now deploy for a variety of projects.
“These mobile survey systems from Teledyne Optech expand Michael Baker’s full continuum of innovative solutions, giving our clients a verifiable way to make informed decisions on what to repair and replace,” said Robert Hanson, senior vice president and Geospatial Practice leader at Michael Baker International. “We’re helping our clients better design and manage resources when it comes to adding, maintaining and restoring their assets – whether it’s a roadway, a runway or some other critical structure. They need real-time, reliable, actionable data on conditions, and these systems provide just that.”
“The Lynx SG mobile survey system is the world leader when it comes to mobile surveying,” said Albert Iavarone, business unit manager at Teledyne Optech, the world leader in high-accuracy LiDAR 3D survey systems, integrated cameras, and productivity-enhancing workflows. “It can collect up to 1.2-million accurate measurements per second when mounted on Michael Baker’s mobile LiDAR unit, collecting survey-grade image data from several different cameras at cruising speeds. With the Lynx, a simple ride along the roadway can lead to a world of accurate geospatial data.”
Michael Baker is currently using the Lynx SG mobile survey system to create the groundbreaking statewide Traffic Signal Asset Management System (TSAMS) for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). TSAMS allows PennDOT to manage and maintain approximately 14,000 traffic signals in the commonwealth more effectively, thereby reducing traffic congestion and enhancing safety for motorists across the state.
