San Antonio (February 14, 2017) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, today announced that Alfred Murillo, PE, has joined the firm as Vice President and Office Executive in San Antonio, Texas. As Texas experiences aggressive expansion, Mr. Murillo will lead the San Antonio office’s balanced portfolio of clients and bring the full range of the firm’s expertise to the region in support of various transportation infrastructure projects. He also will oversee office personnel and manage the day-to-day operations.
Mr. Murillo brings to Michael Baker more than 25 years of private sector experience. He has spent his career working in the San Antonio, Austin and Dallas markets, driving such notable public infrastructure projects as Interstate 45, US 281, Loop 1604 and US 281, as well as various local street and railroad improvements.
“The San Antonio and Austin markets are a top priority for Michael Baker International to enhance our continued growth in Texas as rapid population growth has triggered the need for increased infrastructure support,” said Juan Contreras, PE, Regional Director for Michael Baker International’s Gulf Coast Region. “Combining Alfred’s experience with our existing team, Michael Baker is poised to serve the growing demands of our client base as We Make a Difference in South Texas.”
Recently, Texas was identified as home to seven of the top 10 U.S. cities projected to have populations double by 2050, to more than 50 million people. To address this surge, voters passed Propositions 1 and 7, which allocate increased funding for Texas highway projects. The Texas Transportation Commission earmarked $650 million annually for a major Metropolitan Area Congestion Relief Initiative aimed at systematically addressing the most congested roadway segments in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio—cities within the reach of Michael Baker’s four Texas offices.
Mr. Murillo is an active board member and President Elect for the local San Antonio Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). In addition, Mr. Murillo is active in the local community and is a member of various organizations including the San Antonio Mobility Coalition (SAMCo) and is engaged with the local San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
