Virginia Beach, Va. (March 29, 2016) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, is extending its relationship with the United States military by serving as a contractor for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic. The company leads a joint venture team awarded the five-year, $50 million contract to provide environmental compliance services at U.S. Naval, Marine Corps and other Department of Defense (DOD) installations worldwide.
NAVFAC manages the planning, design, construction, contingency engineering, real estate, environmental and public works support for U.S. Navy shore facilities around the world. Michael Baker will support DOD installations and organizations with sustainable approaches for meeting DOD, federal, state, local and installation-specific statutory environmental laws, regulations and guidance.
“Michael Baker has a 26-year history of providing consulting services to the United States Navy, including our support of similar environmental compliance requirements for the last 15 years,” said John Mentz, P.G. vice president and program manager for Michael Baker International. “Backed by our global reach and full continuum of innovative solutions, Michael Baker is capable of managing and navigating the complex requirements the U.S. Navy and Department of Defense must address on a daily basis.”
Michael Baker experts will provide compliance services pertaining to petroleum storage tanks and assets, oil spill preparedness and planning, air quality, potable water, storm water, wastewater, and waste and material management. Additionally, the team may share expertise related to pesticides, radon, lead-based paint and asbestos, and compliance auditing.
The Norfolk, Va.-based NAVFAC Atlantic awarded the contract on March 21, 2016.
