Asheville, N.C. (October 13, 2014) - Michael Baker International has strengthened its Stream and Wetland team with the addition of Christopher Tomsic, P.E., CFM, ENV SP, as Water Resources Engineer and Jacob (Jake) Byers, P.E., as Lead Ecosystem Engineer in the firm’s Asheville, NC office. The addition of Mr. Tomsic and Mr. Byers will enhance North Carolina’s environmental service offerings and build the region into a new source of strength in the firm’s Environmental Engineering Practice, further extending Michael Baker International’s geographic reach

Christopher Tomsic returns to Baker with eight years of experience specializing in wetland and stream restoration/mitigation, best management practices (BMP), hydraulic/hydrologic modeling and field surveying. In his current role, Mr. Tomsic will utilize his insight to help restore and protect vital natural resources by providing advanced solutions, project management, and technical assistance in all aspects of stream and wetland restoration/mitigation and BMP projects. Previously, Mr. Tomsic was a lead Water Resources Engineer in Indiana on several stream and wetland restoration/mitigation projects and led efforts for ADA compliance, as well as greenway and bike lane design projects.
Mr. Tomsic earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina, Virginia, and Indiana, and is trained in the Rosgen Stream Classification System – a widely used method for classifying/restoring streams and rivers. Mr. Tomsic is an Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) and a member of the North Carolina Association of Floodplain Managers, American Society of Civil Engineers, Engineers Without Borders, and Environmental & Water Resources Institute.
Jacob Byers joins the Asheville team after eight years at the firm’s Cary, NC office. Mr. Byers will lead all aspects of ecosystem and stormwater engineering out of the Asheville office. His background in agriculture and the outdoors gives him a deeply ingrained respect for the natural environment and conservation. He has extensive regional experience in environmental and natural resources restoration and management, specializing in streams, wetlands and stormwater. Mr. Byers previously served as Project Manager and Project Engineer for numerous projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC.
Mr. Byers holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from North Carolina State University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, Rosgen trained, and North Carolina Department of Transportation Level III Erosion Control Certified.
