Louisville, Ky. (February 17, 2016) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced that Engineering News-Record (ENR) Midwest magazine recognized one of the company’s rising stars as a “20 Under 40” honoree. Jason Stith, a structural engineer in Michael Baker’s Louisville, Ky. office, earned the accolade as an up-and-coming industry leader based on his career progress, his commitment to his community and his involvement in landmark and sustainable projects.

Since joining Michael Baker five years ago, Stith has driven a host of landmark bridge repair and construction projects throughout Kentucky. Most recently, he played a critical role in the design of twin arch bridges at Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley in western Kentucky. Additionally, Stith had a prominent role in designing the replacement span for the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge, which was completed in just four months after being heavily damaged by a cargo ship.

“Jason’s combination of technical understanding, awareness of business strategies, leadership qualities and approachable personality make him an asset to Michael Baker’s business. He embodies the type of young engineer that we recruit and seek to retain so we are making a difference – for our clients and in the communities we serve,” said Jeff Campbell, regional director for Michael Baker’s Great Lakes Region. “He is a worthy recipient of ENR’s ’20 Under 40’ designation, and we congratulate him on this honor.”

Active in his community and his profession, Stith recently lent his engineering expertise to the Missionary Air Group, which supports humanitarian and relief operations in poor and remote areas around the globe. Stith volunteered to help design a retrofit for a suspension bridge across a river in Honduras so locals could cross safely and access the area hospital. He also contributes to continuing education and certification programs for Kentucky engineers and serves as a mentor and frequent speaker at local schools.

“As a Michael Baker employee, I know that ‘We Make a Difference’ in our communities not only through our work, but in how we are encouraged to give back to those around us,” explained Jason. “I am proud that ENR Midwest noted the importance of giving back and chose to honor me with this prestigious award.”

ENR profiled Stith and the other “20 Under 40” honorees in a recent edition of the magazine.
