Niek Veraart, AICP, ASLA, ENV SP, is an expert in planning projects at the federal, state and local levels and across sectors, including environmental, transportation, energy, water, technology and urban and regional planning. As Michael Baker International’s National Planning Practice Lead, he engages the company’s client base and collaborates with planning staff nationwide to deliver data-driven, integrated and innovative solutions that are sustainable, resilient and inclusive.

Niek has 30+ years of industry experience, including a wealth of knowledge in planning, national regulatory practices and integration of technology and nature-based solutions in the planning process. He is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, American Society of Landscape Architects, National Association of Environmental Professionals and an affiliate member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Niek frequently speaks about Michael Baker’s work in planning, as well as resilience, sustainability and technology, at industry events such as the American Planning Association’s Federal Planning Division Workshop and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Joint Engineering Training Conference. He has authored many pieces for industry publications, including The Military Engineer and the American Planning Association’s Planning Magazine, as well as for Michael Baker’s Making a Difference blog.
