Michael Baker was proud to work on the Americas regional headquarters for Grundfos in Brookshire, Texas – a building recognized as the first LEED v4 Platinum® certified building in Texas. Michael Baker was engaged to provide mechanical and plumbing engineering design services for this two-story, approximately 49,000-square-foot Scandinavian modernist building complete with conference rooms, restrooms, a main lobby featuring a museum-like experience showcasing the Grundfos history, office spaces and a central plant.
To assist the team in achieving LEED Platinum for the client, Michael Baker designed cooling and heating systems floor-by-floor, which integrated both underfloor air and a traditional overhead perimeter system. Likewise, our team coordinated plumbing designs with the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) plans to include a 75,000-gallon underground chilled water storage tank along with a 100,000-gallon underground rainwater harvesting condensate collection tanks. Likewise, the building’s HVAC systems featured magnetic bearing chillers, energy recovery air handling units (ERVs), variable air volume (VAV) terminal units, fan coil units, diffusers and full building automation controls. This combination of highly efficient mechanical and plumbing systems, along with the building’s use of solar energy and water-saving technologies, enabled Michael Baker and the team to achieve a LEED v4 Platinum certification.
Michael Baker worked in lock-step with HAR-Con Mechanical, PGAL and Harvey Builders to support the design and construction of the Grundfos Americas regional headquarters – resulting in a Best Projects Award in the Office/Retail/Mixed-Use category for ENR Texas and Louisiana (2022) as well as an Outstanding Construction Management Project Achievement Award: Commercial less than $50M – CMMA North Texas Chapter (2022).
