A historic Monte Vista building north of downtown San Antonio named “The Allen” was given a major face-lift and renovation for a redevelopment office project, and Michael Baker was tasked with providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design, as well as construction administration (CA) for this renovation. The space was optimized for flexible workspace settings, natural lighting, and was stripped of newer components to showcase its original architectural details.
Michael Baker’s design experts had to pay close attention and coordinate thoroughly with the architect and its structural team due to the nature of the building and its low-head heights. This presented unique challenges in design of mechanical components, as we had to maintain the building’s historic character. During the process, Michael Baker successfully coordinated with the project team to ensure renovations did not impact the historic designation of the building.
