Sony Electronics North America – Headquarters

Michael Baker provided electrical construction documents for Sony Electronics’ 440,000-square-foot, 11-story corporate headquarters in San Diego. The $175 million project included separate shell and tenant improvements delivered in multiple phases. Our scope included primary electrical service, power distribution, emergency systems, architectural lighting and infrastructure for high-density office and technology spaces. Electrical systems included a 12-kilovolt (kV) primary service, three 2,500-kilovolt-ampere (kVA) unit substations and a 1,000 kVA emergency generator to ensure reliability.

The headquarters features an executive floor with an elaborate boardroom and multiple conference rooms equipped with advanced audio/visual systems. The 11th floor includes a full-service kitchen with indoor formal dining and outdoor café seating. Additional amenities include open and private offices illuminated with linear pendant indirect lighting, a large data center, product demonstration areas, an employee fitness center, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, a 700-seat auditorium with theatrical lighting, a corporate family store, employee break rooms, and a comprehensive shipping and receiving center.

These systems were designed to provide reliable power distribution and support the building’s advanced technology infrastructure while meeting LEED® Gold sustainability standards
