Kirsten Bowen, P.E.

Kirsten Bowen, P.E., is a thought leader in both freight rail and highway. As National Director, Freight Rail at Michael Baker International, she is responsible for positioning the practice for growth and leading a team of experts to deliver innovative solutions that modernize the country’s freight rail infrastructure.

An integral part of Michael Baker for 20+ years, Kirsten has extensive experience in the design of surface transportation projects, ranging from short subdivision roads to major interstates and railyards. She is also a tireless promoter of training and education for discipline-specific advancement and in new technologies, such as BIM for Infrastructure. Kirsten has developed strong relationships with clients, including Norfolk Southern and the Ohio Department of Transportation. She managed the award-winning Lakefront West Corridor Project in Cleveland, Ohio, and is serving as program and design manager for rail corridor projects in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Kirsten is an active participant in the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS International), American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) and American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA). She serves on the Foundation Board for the Case Alumni Association, which serves the Case School of Engineering and the math and applied sciences departments of Case Western Reserve University. She was recognized as the WTS International Member of the Year in 2016 and currently serves as Chair of AREMA’s Committee 14 – Yards & Terminals. Kirsten is the recipient of the 2018 Chairman’s Award, Michael Baker’s highest honor.
