UT MD Anderson Consolidated Service Center (CSC)

Michael Baker was engaged to help construct a new Consolidated Service Center (CSC) for MD Anderson Hospital operations in Houston’s world-famous Texas Medical Center (TMC) by providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and technology designs in two distinct phases. The new CSC, situated within TMC’s eastern campus, is meticulously designed to centralize key support departments into a single 300,000 SF facility which enhances space utilization and operational efficiency. The CSC will consolidate a number of high-demand healthcare services for MD Anderson into a state-of-the-art hub: pharmacy needs, food services, research support, hazardous material storage, clinical support and supply chain logistics.

The CSC is built to offer secure, temperature-controlled storage for hazardous materials, tissue storage and non-hazardous materials. Additionally, a large distribution pharmacy, sterile processing department and a clinical research department will be housed in the CSC. To streamline food operations, one large full-service kitchen catering to multiple MD Anderson hospital facilities will be located in the CSC. These operational upgrades integrate previously dispersed services – thereby improving workflows, reducing redundancies and strengthening MD Anderson’s ability to focus on patient care within their multiple facilities.

Michael Baker also provided 3D Energy Modeling services for building geometry, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, construction materials, and the calculation of internal load; thus creating a detailed report with recommendations so that MD Anderson could meet LEED® Silver standards for their CSC facility.
