NJDOT Pavement Collection and Analysis

Trenton, New Jersey

Michael Baker performed pavement inventory and analysis services in support of the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s (NJDOT) Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) to report pavement conditions of off-state National Highway System (NHS) segments.

Inventory was performed using our mobile data collection vehicle, which leverages the LCMS, mobile LiDAR and spherical 360-degree camera. Pavement data was processed to provide International Roughness Index (IRI), rutting, faulting and crack percentages in accordance with HPMS reporting guidelines. Processed data was aligned with NJDOT’s standardized Linear Reference System (LRS) and HPMS network. Inventory data was combined with NJDOT’s on-state pavement data inventory provided by NJDOT’s Pavement Bureau. Data and analysis also was included in NJDOT’s official HPMS submittal for the 2015 reporting year as well as the upcoming 2016 reporting year.

Impact

“Our technical approach to automated pavement data collection processing and integration will help the state develop and maintain a comprehensive pavement program to support current and future pavement preservation goals.”
