Michael Baker was engaged to provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) and technology design for the largest custom screen printing and embroidery company in Texas. Construction of the building included production areas for 30x hydraulic presses and 10 electric dryers, high-pile inventory space, office space, an embroidery area, prep area, finishing area, receiving and shipping areas.
Given the high quantity of differentiated production equipment, one of the challenges the Michael Baker team faced was the coordination of timing of the utility connections. Specifically, with regards to the overall scheduling so we could meet cost expectations. To reduce overall cost impact, we limited use of the sand-oil separator equipment to match local regulations. While early release packages were lacking, Michael Baker was still successful in coordinating with Vaughn Construction regarding lead times – ensuring equipment was available and staying diligent in responsive communications with all parties.
Alongside our project teammates Energy Architecture and Vaughn Construction, we were able to maximize use of high volume / low speed (HVLS) fans throughout the production area. Utilizing the additional air distribution provided by the HVLS fans enabled us to reduce the number of rooftop air handling units servicing the production facility, thereby increasing savings for the end client.
