Michael Baker International Names Joseph Bartorelli Vice President, National Geospatial Business Development Director

PITTSBURGH (October 26, 2023) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced today that Joseph Bartorelli has joined the firm as Vice President, National Geospatial Business Development Director. In this leadership role within Michael Baker’s Consulting and Technology Solutions (CTS) vertical, Mr. Bartorelli will work closely with Operations leaders and staff at the regional and office level to implement an enterprise approach to business development for the firm’s innovative and sustainable geospatial services. He will be responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, developing and maintaining strategic growth and partnership plans, and driving revenue growth in Michael Baker’s geospatial software and services offerings. Additionally, he will work across the organization to extend and expand the firm’s strategy for delivering geospatial technology, differentiation and innovation.

Mr. Bartorelli brings more than 30 years of experience in the geospatial industry to his new role, including business management, photogrammetric practice, digital mapping/remote sensing, ground/airborne-based LiDAR, airborne GPS/IMU technology, sUAS/Drone technology, textured mesh technology, enterprise asset management and geographic information systems (GIS).  Prior to joining Michael Baker, Mr. Bartorelli most recently served as Director of Geospatial for Fuscoe Engineering, Inc. Earlier in his career, Mr. Bartorelli held positions with Psomas, Vertical Mapping Resources, Inc. and HJW Geospatial, Inc.

Mr. Bartorelli earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Nevada, Reno. He is an American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) Certified Photogrammetrist and GIS Certification Institution (GISCI) Certified GIS Professional.

Kyle Kramer, AIA, LEED AP, has been named Office Executive for Greater DC and Maryland operations, and Lorna Parkins, FAICP, has been elevated to Office Executive for Virginia Beach and Richmond. In their expanded roles, Mr. Kramer and Ms. Parkins will be responsible for driving continued growth in their respective offices, as well as providing operational management, staff management and production/project oversight in the office.

He joined the firm in 2021 as Baltimore Office Executive and has been an excellent collaborator on pursuits and project execution, while building the business by adding more than 30 employees to the Baltimore team. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kramer held positions with STV and AECOM.

Mr. Kramer earned Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, as well as a Master of Business Administration Degree from Frostburg State University. His professional affiliations include the American Council of Engineering Companies of Maryland (ACEC/Maryland), American Institute of Architects (AIA) and U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

With this promotion, Ms. Parkins will expand her role as Office Executive to include both the Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Richmond, Virginia, offices. Ms. Parkins holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Planning/Urban Affairs from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Master of Science degree in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota. Michael Baker International Names Steven Yoshizumi Transportation Practice Executive for California

Earlier in his career, he also held positions with URS Corporation (now part of AECOM), Huitt-Zollars, Inc. and Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas, Inc.

Michael Baker International Names Michael Borzok Western Region Operations Manager – Bridge

Prior to joining Michael Baker, Mr. Borzok held roles of increasing responsibility at WSP USA, most recently serving as Senior Vice President and Structural Engineer. Earlier in his career, Mr. Borzok spent 20 years at Modjeski and Masters, where he rose to the level of Senior Project Manager.

Mr. Borzok earned a Master of Engineering degree in Engineering Science from Penn State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University. He is also certified by the Project Management Institute.

Michael Baker International Hires Ed Newman as Vice President of Cost Management

Prior to his construction career, he served as an officer in the U.S. Army with several combat engineer units, stationed across the U.S. and overseas.

Mr. Newman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy West Point. He is a member of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).

Michael Baker International Selected as Program Manager for Pennsylvania Safety Transportation and Research Track

PITTSBURGH (September 15, 2023) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced today that the firm has been selected as the program manager for the  Pennsylvania Safety Transportation and Research Track (PennSTART) by the Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC). PennSTART will be a comprehensive test track and research facility for traffic incident management training and for the research and testing of emerging transportation technology, such as automated vehicles. As the program manager, Michael Baker will develop a master plan for the facility, determine a project phasing and implementation strategy, prepare procurement documents for each of the project phases and provide design and construction oversight services.

PennSTART is a unique partnership that was created among the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), Carnegie Mellon University, Westmoreland County and RIDC. The program management project team led by Michael Baker also includes engineering consultants HDR, Inc. and BRPH, aviation specialist uAvionix, and mobility testing service provider Transportation Research Center, Inc.

Michael Baker International Hires Scot Becker, P.E., as Director of Asset Management and Bridge Technologies

PITTSBURGH (August 24, 2023) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced today that Scot Becker, P.E., has joined the firm as Director of Asset Management and Bridge Technologies. In this newly created role, Mr. Becker will expand and grow the firm’s asset management and bridge technology services to better serve its clients.

Mr. Becker has more than 30 years of industry experience, including 29 with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), where he led the creation of a next generation web-based inspection and asset management system, implemented a new Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) bridge manual and provided leadership in the Leo Frigo and Zoo Interchange emergency bridge projects.

He most recently served as WisDOT’s Deputy Administrator of the Division of Transportation System Development, providing planning, development and operation of safe, reliable and efficient multimodal transportation systems.  Additional roles with WisDOT include Director, Bureau of Structures; Structural Development Chief; and Structural Development Engineer.

Mr. Becker earned a Master of Science degree and Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served as the Vice Chair, AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures (COBS).
