PITTSBURGH (September 7, 2021) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced today that Dave Dickey, AICP, has joined the firm as Executive Vice President and Chief Growth Officer. In this role, Mr. Dickey will oversee the firm’s pursuit process, enhance business development efforts and develop and execute new business strategies to drive growth. He will provide leadership to all colleagues across the company responsible for growth and assume direct oversight of the National Practice Leaders in Transportation, Water, Bridge, Planning and Construction Services, and the Proposal Development team.

Mr. Dickey brings a wealth of experience to his leadership position at Michael Baker, including a career in engineering consulting spanning more than three decades spent in leadership, operational management and growth. At AECOM and previously URS, he served for nearly 20 years in leadership roles of increasing responsibility spanning both Operations and Business Development. Most recently, Mr. Dickey was Executive Vice President, Winning Work Group Lead at AECOM, where he led a growth team focused on strategic and major pursuits across all business lines, including the bid and proposal teams.

Mr. Dickey is a certified Planner with a background in Engineering and Geology. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (September 1, 2021) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced today that Malcolm Dougherty, P.E., has been named Senior Vice President and Regional Director for the firm’s West Region. Mr. Dougherty will report to Brian A. Lutes, President and Chief Executive Officer, and will be based out of Michael Baker’s Santa Ana, California, office. He assumes the role from Michael J. Conaboy, P.E., who has been promoted to Executive Vice President and National Design-Build Executive.

As Regional Director, Mr. Dougherty will be responsible for overseeing all engineering, business, marketing and financial operations for Michael Baker’s West Region, which encompasses 16 offices throughout California, Washington, Nevada and Arizona. He will also lead growth efforts for all offices within the West Region.

“As a former employee of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Malcolm has dedicated much of his career to addressing transportation challenges throughout California and since joining Michael Baker nearly four years ago, he has contributed to projects nationwide as our National Practice Executive. Mr. Dougherty joined Michael Baker in 2018 as the National Practice Lead for Transportation. In this role, he drove the strategic direction, growth and performance of the practice and led an integrated team of regional transportation and management professionals in all aspects of transportation. He was promoted to his most recent role as National Practice Executive in 2020, overseeing the strategic direction for the company’s national practices.

“As a long-time California resident, I am excited to take on this new role and will work with our nearly 600 colleagues throughout the West Region to deliver the quality projects for which Michael Baker is known,” said Mr. Dougherty.

Prior to joining Michael Baker, Mr. Dougherty spent 26 years in progressive leadership roles with Caltrans, culminating in the position of Director. In this role, he was responsible for the maintenance and operations of more than 50,000 lane miles of roadway in the State Highway System and the delivery of an $11.4 billion construction portfolio. He also had overall fiscal responsibility for the Department’s budget of more than $10 billion and 20,000 employees.

Prior to his appointment to Director, Mr. Dougherty served as Chief Deputy Director and Chief Engineer at Caltrans, where he honed his leadership skills by advising the Department Director on all aspects of policy and operations. He represented the department at meetings and hearings and with the executive team on administrative priorities related to the state transportation system.

Mr. Dougherty holds numerous affiliations and certifications, including: member of the Board of Directors for the Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS) of America, member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), as well as past positions such as Chair of the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Executive Committee, Chair of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Committee on Construction, Chair of the Toll Bridge Program Oversight Committee, AASHTO Board of Directors, President of the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO) and past member of the California Public Works Board.

Mr. Dougherty earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in California.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (August 16, 2021) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced today that Mike Stengel, P.E., is taking on a new leadership position within the firm’s Gulf Coast Region as he leads the opening of a new office in Bentonville, Arkansas. As Vice President and Office Executive, Mr. Stengel will focus on managing the firm’s relationship with the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) and expanding its client roster. The addition of this new office supports the firm’s focus on expanding its business in the high growth market of Northwest Arkansas.

Mr. Stengel has more than 26 years of experience, including 14 with Michael Baker, managing civil engineering, aviation and transportation design and construction projects. He is a well-known industry leader in Arkansas who has provided oversight and guidance for airport, roadway and bridge design teams, construction services and survey operations. As the firm’s Office Executive in Little Rock from 2007-2019, he served as the Principal-In-Charge and led the team to ensure the successful completion of numerous ARDOT projects under on-call contracts, as well as projects for the City of Little Rock, City of Maumelle, Jonesboro Municipal Airport and numerous airside and landside projects at the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (August 5, 2021) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced today that John Hurley, P.E., PMP, has joined the firm as National Market Lead – Army Programs. Mr. Hurley will be responsible for providing leadership to develop, support and execute Army projects, which support the United States Department of Defense (DoD) and other Federal agencies, expanding our Army services beyond our work with the Army Corps of Engineers, and growing the company’s entire Federal portfolio. He will be based in the firm’s Alexandria, Virginia, office.

“John is a versatile senior executive with more than 32 years of extensive leadership, management and engineering experience, including 15 years serving in executive leadership positions with the Army Corps of Engineers,” said James E. Mr. Hurley’s experience with the Army Corps of Engineers and private industry includes engineering, construction management, medical, energy, cybersecurity, environmental remediation, project and program management and safety. He most recently served as Deputy Director of Engineering with Bechtel National, Inc., where he was responsible for coordinating and synchronizing engineering efforts across the entire life cycle of complex projects and programs, including proposal development, design, procurement, construction and start-up. He worked collaboratively with leaders of mechanical, electrical, control systems, nuclear, plant design and automation disciplines to manage more than 1,000 engineers providing matrix support on numerous complex projects. He also brings to Michael Baker successful global engineering experience, which includes delivering construction projects in the United States, Japan, Italy, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Mr. Hurley holds a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

The annual survey provides detailed rankings of the largest professional service firms and construction firms in almost 50 separate market sectors. This year, Michael Baker maintained its position in the top 6% of Design Firms, ranking No.31 for the second consecutive year. The firm also ranked No. 18 among the Top 100 Pure Designers.

Mr. Hans will lead the firm’s expansion in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky, expand client relationships and drive growth throughout the Great Lakes Region.

Prior to that, he served as a Senior Project Manager with CT Consultants responsible for business development and marketing for the Southwest Ohio and North Central Kentucky regions. Mr. Hans also spent more than 27 years with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) in a variety of roles, beginning as a Bridge Inspector/Maintenance Engineer and progressing to Executive Director/Chief District Engineer, where he managed a team of nearly 300 employees and provided oversight for state highway activities and projects for the 11 Northern Kentucky counties in District Six.

Mr. Hans holds two Bachelor of Science degrees, one in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky and another in Physics from Northern Kentucky University.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (July 14, 2021) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced today that Jim Porter, P.E., has joined the firm as Vice President and Northern California Office Executive overseeing operations in Oakland, Rancho Cordova and Walnut Creek, where he will be based. Mr. Porter will focus on implementing strategies to accelerate business growth across the Region, including adding new markets, developing clients and expanding the capabilities of the offices.

Most recently, Mr. Porter served as the Director of Public Works for the county of San Mateo, California. He oversaw a staff of more than 300 and performed a wide array of design, construction, construction administration, operations and maintenance services involving the county’s transportation systems, buildings, general aviation airports, flood control and stormwater management, sewer collection, water distribution, lighting districts, parks, solid waste and recycling program management, energy conservation programs and environmental stewardship. Earlier in his career, he held positions as Public Works Director for the City of Los Altos, California, Senior Civil Engineer with Daly City, California, and as an Associate Engineer with Morrison Knudsen Engineers.

Mr. Porter holds a Master of Public Administration degree from San Francisco State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington.

Mr. Kramer will leverage his 17 years of professional experience, including 10 in operations management, to focus on expanding client relationships and implementing projects that utilize the firm’s wide-ranging expertise for its clients and communities.

Mr. Kramer is an experienced architect and project manager who most recently served as the Operations Manager for STV Inc.’s Mid-Atlantic Building Practice, where he provided leadership to the architecture and engineering staff in the firm’s Baltimore and Virginia Beach offices. He has also served a diverse group of transportation, state, federal and commercial clients during his time as Operations Manager – Architecture Department, Project Architect and Project Manager at AECOM. Mr. Kramer has served clients such as the Maryland State Highway Administration, Maryland Port Administration, Maryland Transit Administration, Virginia Railway Express and others key to the Baltimore and D.C. Metro Region, and he has project experience in bus rapid transit and commuter rail station design, as well as Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) projects in which he served as the lead architect.

TITUSVILLE, Fla. (June 24, 2021) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, and the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority join Space Perspective, the world’s first luxury spaceflight experience company, in celebrating the first space launch from the Space Coast Air and Spaceport, located in Titusville, Florida. On June 18, 2021, Space Perspective’s Neptune One spaceship test vehicle successfully flew to its target altitude and traversed the Florida peninsula before splashing down in the Gulf of Mexico and being recovered.

Michael Baker has served as the Airport’s Engineer and General Consultant since 2008. In 2020, the firm partnered with the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority to achieve a Spaceport Launch Site Operators License, allowing the Authority to conduct launches from the Space Coast Air and Spaceport. This marked only the 12^th Licensed Spaceport Launch Site approved in the United States.

To support the Spaceport’s activities, the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority is planning several large-scale construction projects, including a 4,000-square-foot hangar to produce and develop horizontal spacecraft and storage for rocket-grade kerosene and oxidizers, a 4,000-square-foot apron between the hangar and taxiway and a 350,000 square-foot parking lot. The area also offers more than 700 acres of developable access to SR 407, making it an ideal location for space businesses.

In his new role, Mr. Peyyeti will leverage his deep technical knowledge and 26 years of industry experience to develop client relationships, deepen partnerships with industry leaders, win new work and successfully deliver projects that leverage the full capabilities of Michael Baker.

Mr. Peyyeti, who joined Michael Baker in 2015 as an Assistant Department Manager in Newark, New Jersey, and most recently served as the interim Office Executive for New York, has extensive experience managing multi-disciplined and highly complex projects for clients in New York, New Jersey and Mississippi. His work as a Project Manager with the firm includes the Paterson Plank Road over NJ Route 3; Nacote Creek Bridge Replacement; World Trade Center Water Intrusion Protection Plan & Resiliency Design; and the Trench Restoration and Street Improvements projects. Prior to joining Michael Baker, Mr. Peyyeti served as a Project Manager for TranSystems Corp., where he worked on large-scale transportation projects for the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA), New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA). Earlier in his career, he held positions at Dewberry, STV Inc., SIMCO Engineering, URS Corporation and Neel-Schaffer, Inc.

Mr. Peyyeti holds a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur, India.
