Michael Baker International Promotes Mark Pitchford, P.S.M., to Office Executive Overseeing All Florida Operations

PITTSBURGH (July 3, 2024) – Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, today announced that Mark Pitchford, P.S.M., has been promoted to an expanded Office Executive role overseeing all operations in Florida. Mr. Pitchford will continue to lead the firm’s Orlando and Tampa offices, while also supervising the Jacksonville and Tallahassee locations. He will be responsible for overseeing the firm’s Florida client care and spearheading the growth of Michael Baker’s state-wide portfolio of business, which includes clients such as the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) across seven districts and the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX). Additionally, Mr. Pitchford will provide operational and staff management expertise and production and project oversight for all the firm’s Florida capabilities, spanning civil/planning/environmental engineering, construction services, drainage & resilience expertise and transportation design (aviation, bridge, highway and traffic).

Earlier in his career, he spent 17 years in the Clearwater area with Cardno as Southern Business Unit Manager and Area Manager, leading the company’s organic revenue growth and geographic expansion into the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas.

Mr. Pitchford earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Surveying and Mapping from the University of Florida.

The team coordinated with arborists, managed environmental cleanup aspects, secured necessary permits, protected sensitive areas, complied with regulations, and meticulously tracked removal activities. In addition, MLU significantly contributed to disaster response during the Paradise Fire in 2019 and the Creek Fire in 2020 by quickly establishing temporary housing, setting up 400 Mobile Housing Units for the Paradise Fire, and providing 170 bunk trailers with over 2,040 beds for the Creek Fire.
State of Florida: Tidal Basin, Michael Baker and MLU have played pivotal roles in Florida’s resiliency and recovery initiatives. MLU provided housing and wrap-around services for emergency workers post-Hurricanes Sally and Ian. Additionally, Tidal Basin’s extensive program and grant management, contact center support, technology solutions for Florida’s vaccine rollout, the $1.6 billion Emergency Rental Assistance Program and immediate disaster response and long-term recovery services following Hurricanes Ian and Idalia combined with Michael Baker’s management of the State Highway System Resilience Action, showcases significant contributions to public health initiatives, housing recovery and infrastructure resilience in Florida.

Healthcare Sector Projects

Veteran Affairs Las Vegas Medical Center: The 936,468-square-foot facility is the first major project by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in over 15 years. The complex includes a hospital, behavioral health facility, skilled nursing-community living facility, outpatient clinics, and more on a 160-acre site. Photovoltaic and Water Storage for Homeowners in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico: Tidal Basin is managing the $300 million Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR)-funded Community Energy and Water Resiliency Installations (CEWRI) Program, improving energy and water resilience for homeowners in Puerto Rico affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, with photovoltaic systems with battery backup and water storage. Similarly, the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating Facility is the largest solar thermal power plant globally, using over 300,000 mirrors to direct sunlight to power towers, producing enough electricity for more than 140,000 homes during peak hours and reducing carbon emissions by over 450,000 tons annually. Michael Baker International Selected by the Arkansas State Broadband Office for Broadband Grants Systems and Services Contract

The firm will partner with ASBO to supply services for managing and administering public funding sources – including the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD), U.S. Treasury Community Project Funding (CPF) and Digital Equity Act – for the ARConnect broadband program. He was instrumental in orchestrating the development of a total QMS approach for TC Energy that focused on the critical quality controls required in engineering, procurement and construction. Earlier roles in his career include General Manager Western Canada and U.S. Operations for LVM/HTES (now part of Stantec), Construction Quality Manager for Parsons, Assistant Project Manager for Landtek, and Lead Field Engineer for Washington Group International.

Mr. Sorensen earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Montana Technological University.
